uhm, that was a very ignorant statement. Without “minor that, major that, phrygian this, dorian that” there wouldn’t be music. everything you “just jam out” will be in a scale or made that matches the key/chord progression… if it doesn’t, then you’re sucking and it won’t sound good. As for me, I was around with everyones favorite d natural minor.

I would actually suggest D natural minor, as opposed to dorian or harmonic minor. Harmonic is appropriate for the last measure of each time through the progression because it modulates to A major (A phrygian dominant.) Dorian however, doesn’t work because the natural 6th sounds out of place in the chord progression
