Would I be able to play some basic guitar songs in a few months?

<< Guitar Chords: Open Chord Progressions In The Key Of A  Jamorama Review – Online Guitar Learning Course >>

I really want to learn how to play the guitar! Do you think if I started now I would be able to play some songs by Christmas time?

Yes, easily. you need a guitar, a tuner and a book of chords.
You also have to be aware that you left hand fingers will hurt a lot for the first little while, and the same fingers must have short nails.
OK. Tune the guitar (an electronic tuner is probably best) and find some easy chords in the book. I recommend A D and E. Finger the D chord, making sure that your fingers are at 90 degrees to the strings. Push down until each string is sounding clearly. then strum across the strings. When you are ready, repeat this with the chord A and then E.
you can play a few tunes with D and A . Frere Jacques is a good example. when you can play D and A add E to the mix. Then you can play 12 -blues in A D and E to your heart’s content. Johnny B Goode, Hound Dog, Blue Suede Shoes etc. If you learn G next, you can play in 2 keys – A (A D E) and (D G A ). take C next and Em Key of G (G Em C D). I’ve added a minor chord here cos it’s the easiest one.
One last thing – you need time and willingness to practise!!!!!

If you practice enough and are dedicated, learn the basics or take lessons, you should be able to figure out songs in no time. Learning the basic chords and progressions such as G-Em-C-D or C-Am-F-G will give you access to many, many songs. If you’re not taking lessons, a good chord book will help. Go to your local guitar shop and talk to the people there and they will help you with a selection and might even be willing to show you a few things too. But generally it doesn’t take that long if you practice. Find other players who are a little better than you and watch and learn from them, then move on to better players increasing your skills along the way.

    Good luck!

To some extent, yes. There are thousands of songs based exclusively on three chords or less. If you’re interested in strumming the chords, you could easily learn to play some songs before Christmas time. If you wanted to learn to play melodies along with chords, this is a much more advanced pursuit.

Absolutely possible. I taught myself and it just came natural now I’m in a killer rock band, a weird punk band, and an edgy death folk band, and lastly a southern punk band. If you were here I could teach you D A and G. From those 3 chords alone you can master half of rock & roll baby!! All you need is 1 an electric or acoustic guitar.
2 A CHROMATIC TUNER!! They are about 20 us and you need it.
3 a book of chords and a guitarist at the shop to show you D A G and E.
4 you will need an amplifier if you get an electric guitar.
Best idea : start on an acoustic then get the electric later. If it sticks you will want at least 3 or 15 more guitars. Good Luck!! Enjoy!

Yes, if you are a natural musician, you can play a song within one month. I have taught several teens how to play guitar over each summer and none of them are geniuses or anything, just regular kids. By the end of the summer, 70% of the can play. It’s just a matter of finding a teacher who teaches you the right way. Many teachers will drag out lessons for more money. Just find someone to help you learn the chords and read tab and you will be good to go.

it is very likely. as long as you practice enough and learn enough about it, then yes, you’ll be able to by Christmas. Learning chords usually takes little time.. (Usually!!)
