Freight train is a great song to getting started with playing fingerstyle guitar. This lesson features 4 versions of this song and with each version there will be some things added.
This is the first version (easy) and it starts from the really beginning. It features some fundemantal basics like alternate bass, independent fingers etc. and It is based on 4 easy chords in C. It’s split up in 8 parts and I’ve tried to explain it step by step and in a slowed down way.

Grade : Beginner

Tablature can be found on : www.myspace.com/heronymusic
For the tabledit tablature of all versions just leave me an email.

This song is written by Elizabeth Cotten.
Hope you’ll enjoy!!

Hey Jeroen,

Keep up the good work!

I’m going to be putting in some serious practice time to this lesson. Thanks! Any chance you will do Jerry Reed’s the claw like this at any point?

@gibby6117 I think it will help you in general to move your fingers independent from your thumb in this style. Alternating bass is the most common way to get this together. Later on the bass part is a bit extended. All the best , Jeroen

Question I have been playing freight train with tabs .I don’t work on alternating bass much because I just play with the tab and will this cause me problems later on? Thanks ahead of time for your reply .
