While it’s absolutely true that musical talent is generally either there or it’s not, when it comes to guitarists, developing screaming fingers is something they all have to work at. If a guitarist plays with their heart, has some innate talent and a desire to truly practice, screaming fingers are a possibility.

To be able to take a guitar and play hot licks like a pro, however, some conditioning will need to come into play. Screaming fingers are, after all, made and not born. This means anyone who expects to pick up a guitar and play like a pro within a few hours is probably fooling themselves. The process of learning will require some time, patience and practice.

To ensure the best development of screaming fingers for guitar players, a novice player will need to set his or her sights on a few things. Number one in all of it will be a desire to learn to play the guitar and play it well. In order to have fingers scream across the strings like they are on auto pilot, it will be important to have a very good understanding of chords, finger placement and the such.

Getting started on the road to success involves some time and practice. The first thing is first, however, learn the guitar! This means take lessons, either face-to-face or online, learn the chords and learn finger placement while practicing it on a daily basis.

Once a basic understanding of the notes and finger placement is in place, the next step in developing screaming fingers involves a willingness to practice these things over and over again. For something to become second nature, it has to be practice. Just like learning to walk, ride a bicycle or write your name, screaming fingers will take repetitious learning to perfect and master.

The idea behind all the practice is to ensure that the mind drives the fingers exactly where they need to go when they play. The more chords are practiced, the more likely it is the movement to play them will become route. When this is the case, having true screaming fingers status is almost attainable.

The other major factor in creating screaming fingers is a willingness to exercise the fingers, as well. It’s important to keep hands limber and ready to play. Many guitar players who want to ensure they can pick up their axe and play it like it was made for them develop or follow an exercise routine for their hands. Whether it’s simply playing the guitar or working on limbering exercises during down times, keeping the hands moving and fast is an important consideration.

Going from beginner to guitar playing expert takes time and a little innate talent, it’s true. The fact is anyone with a heart for the instrument and an ear for music can learn to play and play well.

Developing screaming fingers, however, will require more dedication than just learning the guitar. To truly attain this status, a player needs to know the instrument about as well as they do themselves. The key here is time and patience.

Air Guitar?
My pre teen son has expressed interest in starting a band, but doesn’t play any instruments. He has expressed interest in a guitar, but I’m not sure I want to lay out the money for a guitar until he shows commitment.

I’m thinking of starting him off with a nice air guitar, but I’m having trouble locating a good one.

Can someone give me info on a couple of things -

1) Are there any good web sites out there where I could find an affordable used air guitar?

2) About how much should I expect to pay, for an instrument of decent, but not expert quality?

3) Are there any things I should look at specifically, besides price?

4) Finally, my younger daughter has expressed an interest in joining her brother’s "band". Do they make other air instruments, like air drums, or air tambourine?

They offer guitar class in high school and college these days. Maybe try waiting until he’s in high school… I don’t know.

I believe in starting out youngsters (depending on budget) on a basic acoustic guitar and learn the basics correctly. Many youngsters want to jump in on an electric guitar and if you don’t have a garage they can go play in….your ears and your neighbors will suffer.

An air guitar is AIR, not real, imaginary.

You can get real starter instruments for rather cheep. probably as cheep as you can Air instruments. To tell you the truth Air instruments wouldn’t get me to excited to want to keep playing with them. If you are interested in getting you children into music then I suggest taking the time to talk to them and really let them know that it is something that they will have to work for, and make them do extra things around the House and chores to earn the money to buy the instruments than buy air instruments. If you are interested in getting them some good starter instruments let me know, I will be glad to help in any way I can, I have some connections that would be sure to help you. Good luck!

Well, used air guitars are very rare.. I doubt you would be able to find one at any price, so I suggest you get ready to get a home equity loan and spring for a new one. The best air guitar out there has to be the ‘Flailing Fingered Pretendous’, a beauty of the utmost craftsmanship… it has the infamous triple whammy bar that all airplayers crave, additionally the string-bending capacity is mind activated so the responsiveness is nothing short of incredible. Forget about ‘decent’, if you cannot afford to go with the best, don’t even consider entering this elete sub sector of musicianship.

Yes, almost all instruments exist in air form, but the holy grail and not surprisingly, most coveted item is the electrified string instruments, particularly guitar.

With an air guitar, your son will become a master in no time.

I used to have pretend concerts with all my air instruments when I was younger and it was awesome.

With an air guitar, your son can really build up his confidence, stage performance and presence to another level! He will have to get used to all that attention he will be getting once he starts playing the air guitar in public.

Any model of air guitar is ok, it’s how he plays it that counts.

I’m not sure about the other air instruments; such musicians won’t be a glamourous as an air guitarist. It’s hard to have a long-term career with these. Better stick with guitars.

There are some decent air guitar websites for you out there. My favourite is the http://www.mirrorimage.com/air. Excellent visuals.

How much should you pay? Does it matter? All that matters is the look on your son’s face when he unwrapped his first air guitar. That’s priceless.

I’ve never heard of an actual air guitar, but sadly, I suspect they do exist. Don’t start out with an air guitar. Get the real thing. If you look around, you can find them at a cheap price. The quality doesn’t have to be too good. It just needs to be playable. Try looking around at pawn shops or garage sales. The same applies to your daughter. Find out what instrument she’s interested. I’m sure you can find something affordable. Either way, definitely encourage them to learn music. It can be so rewarding.
