I got scratches all over my pick guard! But, having played this rhythm for years, using upstrokes and speeding it up is interesting. It sounds like a bluegrass john lee hooker fusion.

You, sir, are a dumb ass, it’s for playing. I’m sure he spends extensive amounts of time clipping and shaping them to just the right length for his musical endeavors. I mean really, we’re you serious?

No… Lester Flatt …
No… Lester Flatt & Carter Stanley do not represent all bluegrass.
Just TRUE bluegrass.
Pickguards are there to protect guitars from bad technique.
A good player’s pick NEVER comes in contact with the pickguard.
Good bluegrass rhythm should always accentuate the downbeat (bass) not the backbeat (strum).
Anything more than a light strum and you’re gonna drag the rhythm.
It’s easy to forgive at slow tempos but you’ll bog down a band at high speeds.
Sorry about your bad technique.
…
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooweeeee.clip them nails
This person who …
This person who said the all-downstroke is wrong is an obvious novice. This is a basic bluegrass rhythm, the one to learn first.
The up-strum is next step and is not done the way you say. Most bluegrass pickers cannot do it correctly.
Lester Flatt & Carter Stanley do not represent all bluegrass.
By the way. A light strum is not playing rhythm. The hand must follow through.
Thats why they made pickguards on guitars after the strings not under them.
The all-downstroke …
The all-downstroke bluegrass rhythm is WRONG!
Everyone does it but it bogs down the beat at high speed.
Lester Flatt and Carter Stanley used a thumbpick and a fingerpick.
To properly emulate this with a flatpick:
1. Pick down on the bass note.
2. Do a light up-strum on the 3&4 strings.
3. Repeat
It’s tricky at first but once you get it, you’ll be able to play rhythm at blindingly fast speeds without carpal tunnel setting in.
Try it before you flame me… you’ll be glad you did.

hehe yeah! now when you say it I heard it pretty well!
for the record I …
for the record I don’t advise anchoring the pinky or any other finger. Classical technique never uses the pinky of the right hand. You might find some uses in Flamenco style strumming but I am not versed in this style at all. The thumb only rests on the 6th string in classical if you are trying to clean up string vibrations. Otherwise it dramatically reduces the sustain of played notes on all strings.
for some reason i …
for some reason i hate how everyone in these videos says “premium” lol otherwise, great job
