I’m not planning on getting really good at it, by the way. Just good enough for some alternative rock bass tabs. (the easy ones. like paramore.) I’ve had experience with the guitar before, but i can only do really basic chords. (F, G, E, Em, A, D, C) Is making the switch to bass worth it? My dad thinks that I shouldn’t coz he says I should be really good in guitar first to learn bass. Is this true? Thanks!
I learnt bass before guitar and I don’t think I found playing that guitar that much easier than anyone else.*
Is is worth it to learn electric bass guitar?

I would imagine that it would be far easier to learn bass if you know guitar already.

I think playing bass really improves your timing and will make playing six string come more naturally, playing along to backing tracks also helps you to find different chord structures and practice guitar chord changes a good website for some backing tracks is http://www.funkytigerbackingtracks.com it even has a free guitar tuner ( no batteries required ) lol !

I assumed this was a forum for "Double Bass" players… in that sense the upright bass is part of the violin family and the electric bass is the guitar family of instruments.
Carol Kaye wrote some terrific essays comparing the two instruments.
I learnt guitar first… then electric bass… then upright… it was a natural progression of styles and tastes.
Rufus Reid also has great instructional books for the crossover player

if u really want to switch to bass, then u should.but if u master the guitar, u will just be a typical bassist cuz strumming can be different with bass and u can also use ur fingers, but since u just want to play like paramore, then u would be ok if u masterd guitar… just need to learn a few more things with bass

i played guitar a year before bass and drums, but i got in the habit of playing guitar too much that i use power chords on my 5string bass which can be weird cuz bass has differnt notes.
