i wouldn’t say im really good at guitar, but i’d say im still kinda good. my brother thinks hes a big badass at guitar, but he isn’t really. all he plays is Alice in Chains and other grunge stuff. and hes only good at their solos and NOTHING else. im better than him in all other aspects of guitar. i want to become better than him at soloing, and i want to know if learning all the scales and things is really important. i already have good excersizes that i do to gain speed, but i want to know if i need to learn scales to get really good. im also trying to learn to sweep pick, and ive read u need to know scales to do that. any one know?
Learning scales will help you when you want to improvise solos as you’ll know the notes of the key
is it important to learn guitar scales?

I found they really helped in gaining speed, and im glad I spent the time to learn them as they helped when learning new songs or making my own.
If its soloing you want to become better at take the time to learn them, I did it for an hour a day at first then just for as long as I could be bothered as it becomes like chore sometimes!
Good luck im sure you will play the most amazing solo’s ever in no time!

Well…. Scales aren’t really neccisary to play anysong… If you want to get really good at solos you can just kinda pratice them over and over. For speed, you could learn a scale, play it in quarters, then eights, then sixtenths, and just keep trying to get faster and faster… That would help your fingers get used to that kinda pace of songs, but you could just learn a
really basic scale too… Good luck.

well in a lot of crazy guitar solos there is a lot of scales and runs so yeah i would say that they are important and if he cant do pitch harmonics you should try i do it a different way that i think is easier
I take the palm of my picking hand with the pick in my fingers, pick the note and lift both your palm and your pick off of the string fast it might not sound right, so move around the pickups

There’s a relationship between chords and scales. Practice each and learn the associated music theory. Given that understanding, you can easily write songs, harmonize, and improvise with other players.

Yes, its absolutley important. In order to create your own solo, you need to understand the key the song is played in, its associated chords and the scales that match. Learning other player’s solos is a good way to build up dexterity, but does not do much in scale training. Learn the different scales and modes and their application and in no time you will smoke your one-trick-pony brother. Also, yes you need to know scales/chords for sweep picking.

If you hope to ever be good at playing solos you MUST know scales and, especially, Pentatonic scales… otherwise all you will ever do is strum.
