help with learning to play the piano. first time?
i got it the other day and i really dont know how to play it.
i can play a few things like mary had a little lamb and old mc donald but that is it. i cant read music but i know the music alphabet more or less (from playing guitar).
any tips on how to help me learn i have looked on youtube but couldn’t find much that was helpful.
i would get lessons but cant afford them.
You should first identify the keys on the piano until you can confidently know which key is which without much thinking. Then I’d advise you to play the scales to strengthen your fingers and get used to the keys physically. From then onwards, it would be much easier since it would help you with your note reading and such.

You need lessons.
You have to learn how to use your hands correctly on the keyboard — correct fingering for scales in different keys, correct fingering for different chords in different inversions, and so on. If you don’t learn proper technique in the beginning, it will hold you back later on and prevent you from playing more complex songs.
Learning to read music would also be very helpful.

You should take lessons. If you can’t find any information around the Internet, why don’t you go to a private teacher? Or buy some DVDs. Unfortunately, I don’t know any DVDs for piano, because I don’t play it. I only play the guitar.
