I teach guitar. How can I reach potential customers in a selected area?
I live near Clacton Essex and I am a guitar teacher that travels to the customer. I am looking for customers in the colchester and clacton areas.

In the past to find piano students I posted notices on community bulletin boards at grocery stores and in the post office. The biggest increase in students I had however was from a mailbox campaign. I sent glossy brochures about learning piano straight through the post office to people’s mailboxes and had a great result. It takes some investment but it paid off for me.
You could also look online for a guitar teachers directory that you could join.

Put postcard sizes ads in local shops and post offices. Most supermarkets have community noticeboards where you can put up ads for free for, maybe, a limited time. My friend who tutors guitar arranged to put his A4 sized "posters" in local schools. Again, most schools also have community noticeboards on which you would be allowed to put ads provided they did not offer a service which is also offered by the school – possibly.

You can see if guitar shops or music shops have a bulletin board, or ask if you can post info on the window somewhere to advertise yourself. Or, you can post on Craigslist. Or, if there are schools in that area, I would post it there.

A fun idea, you can go play a demo in a popular area w/ a sign advertising lessons. That may help get the message out and show how skilled you are.

1. Craig’s list ads
2. local paper ads
3. distribute a flier in local shops (any kind)
4. get a business card made up and hand it out to anyone
5. use a referral program with your existing students. Give them some sort of a discount when they bring a new student in.
6. get a plug on a local radio station
7. put an ad in the local phone book
8. Use seasonal bait. Find creative ways to entice people with your ads and fliers.

Example: Ready to tackle your new years resolution? awesome guitar lessons that will bring a new joy to your life!

I recently brainstormed with a friend about his business, and I told him to do all of these things. He just implemented a few and business is well.
